Over the weekend just past, the annual Surin Elephant Festival took place in Thailand. 100 elephants were forced to reenact the training techniques they would have had to endure as babies after being forcibly separated from their mothers and herd before performing in a ‘talent contest’ where they show off their ‘skills’ such as playing football. Lastly, they would take part in re-enactments of historic battles their ancestors would have been used for.
Check out our page on what elephants go through to become ‘skilled’ and ‘trained’ for human entertainment and purpose.
